Industrial switches - equipment for all conditions!
ULTIPOWER Ethernet industrial switches enable data transmission at rates of 10/100 Mbps or 1000 Mbps. Their RJ45 ports support auto-negotiation and Power over Ethernet (PoE) functions. The devices automatically discover PD devices (Power Device) compliant with IEEE 802.3af standard and supply power to them. This way, it is easy to power network devices located in places without access to AC lines, such as access points, IP cameras, IP phones etc. The switches have been equipped with optical converters or SFP slots for installing modules changing the transmission medium to fiber.
ULTIPOWER industrial switches are capable of reliable operation in harsh environmental conditions typical for many industries, like increased dust levels, high or low temperature, high humidity. Such switches should also be mounted in hermetic enclosures installed on poles or other structures located outdoors. The ULTIPOWER switches are equipped with Ethernet ports (Fast Ethernet or Gigabit Ethernet, depending on the model) for connecting IP cameras, computers etc. The industrial switches are protected by housings with IP40 ingress protection rating (against solid foreign objects greater than 1 mm in diameter). All the Ethernet PoE ports can power the connected devices (after supplying the switch with 48-50 VDC). Each of the industrial switches has been equipped with optical module or SFP port converting the transmission medium to fiber.
- Ingress protection rating: IP40
The digits after IP classify and rate the degree of protection provided against intrusion of solid particles (first digit) and water (second digit) to the inside of the housing. The housings of ULTIPOWER switches are rated IP40, which means that the devices are protected against particles with diameter above 1 mm, e.g. most wires, screws etc.
- Supply voltage: 12-48 VDC or 24 VAC
ULTIPOWER industrial switches can be powered from various power sources, within a wide range of DC voltages or with 24 VAC, which provides a lot of flexibility where the 230 AC power network is not directly available. The options include a 24 VDC solar panel, 12 VDC from CCTV system, 24 VAC from automated gate circuitry etc.
- Possibility of connecting two power supplies (the main and redundant)
ULTIPOWER industrial switches can be powered simultaneously from two power sources, even with different voltages. In the event that the first power source fails (e.g. traditional AC/DC adapter), the device will be powered from the other source (e.g. solar panel, rechargeable batteriy). It is the ideal solution in order to maintain stable and continuous operation.
- Power consumption: <6 W (without PoE)
The power consumption of the devices is very low, below 6 W (without using PoE).
- Ethernet ports
Depending on the model, the switches have one to four 10/100 Mbps or 10/100/100 Mbps Ethernet ports. The auto MDI-X ports detect if the connection requires a crossover, and automatically choose the MDI or MDI-X configuration to properly match the other end of the link.
- PoE ports
All Ethernet ports can power PoE devices (PD). They are compliant with 802.3af standard. For the use of the PoE function it is necessary to supply the switches with 48 VDC voltage.
- Fiber optic transmission
The switches have been equipped with optical converters (single-mode, 2x SC) or SFP slots for installing modules converting the transmission medium into fiber. The data rate can be 100 Mbps or 1000 Mbps (depending on the model).
- ESD protection
- ULTIMODE industrial switches are protected against electrostatic discharges up to 6 kV.
- Wide operating temperature range
The switches can work within -40℃ to 80℃. As a result, they can be used in cold stores, inside and outside of buildings or on lamp posts.
- Permissible ambient humidity
- The relative humidity can be within 5...95% range.
- Broad range of atmospheric pressure
- The devices can be used in locations with atmospheric pressure within 800...1100 hPa.
- DIN-rail compatibility
- The switches can be mounted on DIN rails (thanks to a special hold on the rear panel).
- Electrical insulating qualities

In this example, the switches are installed in hermetically sealed enclosures located at the poles. The switches supply power to IP video surveillance cameras (PoE 802.3af, 48 VDC) and concentrate the IP video signals from the cameras. The both locations are connected via a fiber optic link (single mode fibers terminated with SC connectors). The IP CCTV system composed of the five cameras is managed via an NVR connected with the N29971 switch. The use of industrial switches improves the reliability of the system, as they are more resistant to overvoltages and harsh weather conditions. The fiber optic link ensures complete electrical insulation between the two locations of the camera points.
The system can be extended with another camera point, using a switch with two optical ports, e.g. N29973. All the three switches are connected via optical links.
In the diagram above, the one-port switch provides power to the IP camera and transfers the video data to another switch (in a different location, e.g. 2 km away) via a fiber optic link. The SFP modules mounted in the switches should be appropriately selected, depending on the length of the link and the kind of the fibers.
The last diagram shows a pass-through implementation of an optical IP CCTV system. The SFP modules mounted in the switches should be appropriately selected, depending on the length of the link and the kind of the fibers. In this example, the ULTIMODE SFP-023G 2xLC L1405 modules cooperate with multimode fibers over distances up to 2 km.
